CHAPTER TEN

Skadi

When we were younger, we never had the simplicities we do now. We couldn’t just sit on a beach and watch the sunset, mostly because I was always working or Logi was gone. Our relationship survived because the two of us were constantly busy, and when I finished my assignment, or he finished his run, we’d meet up. It wasn’t normal by any means, but it was normal for the two of us. Or as normal as it could’ve been.

Logi’s arm wrapped around me is the most settling feeling I’ve had in ages, but I know we won’t be doing this forever. At some point, we need to head back to Florida, and I secretly hope it’s soon. We have unfinished business with the child trafficking ring, and the longer they’re up and running, the more children that suffer. I can’t bear the thought of it, so I’m going to tell Logi I want to go back home sometime within the next couple of days.

Sure, the trafficking ring knows I was working for the Raiders of Valhalla MC, but I doubt they know how much backup I have. I doubt they even know the allies I have for working with my uncle for so many years too, but I have them. I think they thought I was a woman who was hired by the club and didn’t really think anything else of it.

“You seem like something’s on your mind,” Logi says out of the blue, and I turn to look at my husband.

He isn’t wrong. There’s so much plaguing my mind. Some of the things I think he has to be as well. “I was thinking how it’s been so nice to be here these last few weeks, but this isn’t our home, Logi. Our home is Florida, and the club has had you, Dag, and Aesir be my babysitters. I’m ready to go back home, and I’m ready to fight against these bastards. And before you even say it, I’m not incapable of fighting against them. Within the club, we have numbers, and I think our numbers are going to be what we need to win this fight.”

Logi sucks in a deep breath and sighs, “Skadi . . . we were sent here to keep you safe. If you’re not hidden away, they could come after you.”

I roll my eyes because my husband’s full of shit. “That’s bull, and you know it. You’d never let anything happen to me, especially if I was right by your side.”

Logi blinks a couple of times. “If you were right by my side, huh?”

“Yeah, I don’t plan on going anywhere. You and I said we’d give this another go, and if you ask me, we’re doing a damn good job at it. I’m not dipping out on you as long as you don’t dip out on me. Now, please tell me we can leave this place soon. As lovely as this is, we need to get back home.” I’m speaking completely from the heart, and I hope he can see I am.
